Drewery Watson, Jr.

Drewery Watson, Jr., was born to the late Drewery L. Watson, Sr. and Edna White Watson in Eufaula, Al. He was the third of four children born to the couple. He received an early education from Eufaula City Schools and graduated from T.V. McCoo High School in 1966. .

Drewery enrolled at Tuskegee Institute to play basketball in 1966. He switched to football in 1967. As a linebacker this mighty Golden Tiger was named Captain of his team in 1970 and 1971. A member of the Sports Writers 100% Wrong Club in 1970 and 1971, an All- SIAC linebacker for two seasons 1969 and 1970, an Alabama Small Colleges All-American in 1970, and a Pittsburg Courier All-American in 1971. Drewery signed a free agent contract with the Dallas Cowboys in 1971, played semi-pro football in Detroit, and signed with the Detroit Lions in 1974. .

While at Tuskegee, he majored in health and physical education with a minor in social studies. He began teaching in Detroit Public Schools in 1975. He coached for a variety of sports. He implemented various health and after school programs during his tenure. He served as the athletic director for Saint Girard and Malcolm X Academy and he retired in 2010. .

Drewery is the father of two children; Drejuan and Drewery, III, a 1998 Tuskegee University graduate and a member of the Golden Tigers football team. He has three grandchildren; Jhaylen, Alexxus, and Christian.

About Hall of Fame

The Tuskegee University Athletic Hall of Fame was established in 1974 under the leadership of Dr. Howard W. Davis, Director of Athletics and Chairman of Physical Education and Athletics at Tuskegee University.

Purpose of HOF

The Hall of Fame was organized to recognize and to pay tribute to former athletes and supporters of athletics for their exceptional athletic performance while at Tuskegee and/or their loyal dedicated support of athletics as well as their contributions and community service through their professional careers.

Nominations For Induction

Nominations for induction are accepted through out the year but must be submitted prior to January 1 of the induction year. Inductions are held during the fall of odd years.
