Leonard Garcia Lewis

Class of 1981

Leonard Garcia Lewis, a native of Birmingham, Alabama enrolled at Tuskegee University after earning an athletic scholarship in 1976. An offensive guard, he lettered two years and was a starter during the 1978 and 1979 season, and was team captain during the 1979 season.

As a Computer Science and Mathematics major, Lewis was an outstanding performer in the classroom earning honor roll status in 1978 and 1980. Lewis was active in campus life as he served as a math tutor from 1977-1980 helping fellow student athletes with their math studies. Lewis subsequently earned his MBA from Clark-Atlanta University.

Lewis career include 30 years of progressive experience in the Information Technology industry. He has worked with Westinghouse Electric Corp, Unisys Corp and Open Solutions Corp during his professional career. Lewis is currently a Database Administrator with the Georgia Department of Labor.

Lewis is involved with many spiritual and community organizations. Numbered among them are: New Birth Missionary Baptist Church, Lithonia, Georgia - serving for 21 years in Men's Ministry. Also Lewis has volunteered with the DeKalb County Georgia Habitat for Humanity since 2010 helping families realize home ownership.

A strong and consistent supported of the University, Leonard is a member of the Tuskegee University National Athletic Association (TUNAA). Lewis was also recognized as an Eminent Associate as a Tuskegee Donor in 2010. Lewis has served as Communications Captain with The Skegee Golden Tigers Football Alumni Association since 2011.

Lewis currently lives in Stone Mountain with his wife, Carla, and two children Kimberly and Jonathan.

About Hall of Fame

The Tuskegee University Athletic Hall of Fame was established in 1974 under the leadership of Dr. Howard W. Davis, Director of Athletics and Chairman of Physical Education and Athletics at Tuskegee University.

Purpose of HOF

The Hall of Fame was organized to recognize and to pay tribute to former athletes and supporters of athletics for their exceptional athletic performance while at Tuskegee and/or their loyal dedicated support of athletics as well as their contributions and community service through their professional careers.

Nominations For Induction

Nominations for induction are accepted through out the year but must be submitted prior to January 1 of the induction year. Inductions are held during the fall of odd years.
